Bojangles Southern 500

May 15, 2012 - John Zirbs
I watched the Bojangles Southern 500 at the Darlington International Raceway at Darlington, South Carolina from my home in Elkins. They call it the track "Too Tough To Tame" and "The Lady In Black." The Southern 500 started way back in 1950. It is an egg shaped track and by the end of the race, the turns are all black from cars rubbing against them, that is why Darlington Raceway is called "The Lady In Black."

Jimmie Johnson in the #48 Lowes Chevrolet won his 200th race for car owner Rick Hendrick at the Darlington Motor Speedway.

Johnson held off Denny Hamlin for the win. Next Saturday night is the Sprint Nascar All-Star Challenge from the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, North Carolina. They will race for $1,000,000.
