Being Cheap or Spending Wisely?

SHOPPING — Amanda Day and her daughter, Bianca, 7, of Buckhannon, shop at Big Lots in Elkins on Friday afternoon, while Big Lots employees Barbara Curtis and Tisha Eddleman ring up the purchase. Day said despite the shape of the economy, it hasn’t affected her family’s spending habits.
Being called cheap might once have been a bad thing, but with rising food and gas prices, finding ways to pinch pennies is becoming ever more popular. According to The Associated Press reports, people across the country are finding ways to save as much money as possible.
The poor housing market and high gasoline and food prices are faulted for the shift to lower-end merchandise and overall conservative spending habits. Locally, people are doing what they can to keep their rainy day funds intact.
