West Virginia Wesleyan College’s Department of Theatre & Dance will open its 2008-2009 season with an unusual twist with Christopher Sergel’s stage adaptation of Harper Lee’s classic novel, “To Kill A Mockingbird.” Instead of the traditional Atkinson Auditorium venue, the production will be held today through Saturday at 7 p.m. each day and at 2 p.m. Sunday on Central Avenue (between South Florida and Smithfield streets) in Buckhannon. Tickets are available at $5 for adults; $3 for seniors and non-Wesleyan students; and $2 for Wesleyan students and faculty, with ID. Parking will be available at the First United Methodist Church. The play is set in rural Alabama during the 1930s and pinpoints the controversy built around a white defense lawyer, Atticus Finch, and his client, Tom Robinson, an African-American man. The story delves into the discriminatory actions of the town and its cruel gossip about Tom, Atticus and his children, Scout and Jem.
