RCDA backs levy call

The Randolph County Development Authority sees an improved school system as a way to attract business and create a better future workforce, which is why board members approved a resolution Wednesday evening to support Randolph County Schools’ excess levy. RCDA Executive Director Jennifer Giovannitti explained that the excess levy — which will be on the general election ballot in November — is trying to improve school facilities and learning for the county’s future workforce. She noted that a large portion of the funding, if approved, would be used toward technology. “We all know that the future of learning and the future of business is going to be heavily linked to technology and how well our kids understand that,” Giovannitti said. RCDA board member Jim Schoonover told the group that if the county wants to attract businesses and encourage existing industry to expand, “we need to put more money into education.

Motorists often see one local man with a white cane walking through the area. On Tuesday, Franklin McCauley, 77, was struck by a car when he attempted to cross Ward Road at the intersection with the Beverly Five-lane.
