THREE-VEHICLE WRECK — A three-car collision Friday on Route 92 near Crystal Springs resulted in the death of a Bridgeport man. According to the West Virginia State Police, Mitchell Kerns, 24, was traveling north with passengers Victoria Reves, 19, of Hendricks and a 9-month-old child when his 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe crossed the center line and struck a transport truck being driven by Russell H. Patton, 67, of Perrysburg, Ohio. Kerns was pushed back into the northbound lane where his vehicle struck a Chevrolet truck driven by Paul Shumaker, 40, of Buckhannon, according to a police press release. Kerns was pronounced dead at the scene. Reves, Shumaker and the child were taken to Davis Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Traffic was backed up onto U.S. 33 coming into Elkins as well as Harrison and Randolph avenues due to the closure of the exit for more than two hours.
