Quick start helps Concord sink D&E

Jolysa Brown fired in 32 points and Concord used a quick start to outlast Davis & Elkins 92-81 Thursday in West Virginia Conference action at the McDonnell Center. The Lady Mountain Lions (3-0, 1-0 WVIAC) used a 19-0 run to start the contest and never looked back as the Lady Senators (1-1, 0-1) got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way out. “We wanted to surprise Davis & Elkins and put a press on them early on,” said Concord coach Kenny Osborne. “They knew we usually don’t press, but I think it caught them a little off guard tonight.” It took Davis & Elkins over nine minutes to sink its first shot from the floor as Shalisa Hill’s layin with 11:25 left in the first half made it 19-3. Concord went on to lead 48-26 at intermission while holding the Lady Senators to 24 percent shooting from the floor through the first 20 minutes. “I thought our first half defense was strong,” said Osborne. “We were able to hold them to one-chance shots and I felt our rebounding was hug.
