Pocahontas Squads Place Third in Class A Meet

WESTON — The Pocahontas County High School boys and girls track teams finished third overall Thursday at the Class A Region II meet held at Lewis County High School.
Doddridge County won the girls meet with a score of 185, followed by South Harrison 84, Pocahontas County 53, Moorefield 50, East Hardy and Tucker County 39, Union 36, Tygarts Valley 34, Pendleton County 28 and Notre Dame 1.
The Lady Warriors were led by Adrienne Nottingham, who qualified in four races —the 100, 200, 400 and 800.
Moorefield was led by Jackie Riggleman who advanced in two events which were the 100 and 200 meter dash.
McKenzie Clark advanced in the 300-meter hurdles for the Lady Yellow Jackets.
Moorefield will also send two relays — the 4x100 and 4x200.
East Hardy will send Karen Leatherman in the 3,200-meter run and Angelica King in the shot put.
The Lady Cougars will also send two relays in the 4x100 and 4x400.
WVU’s?Dent On Rimington Watch List
MORGANTOWN — Mike Dent of West Virginia University was named Thursday to the 2008 watch list for the Rimington Trophy, presented annually to the nation’s best center.
The 6-4, 295-pound senior from Jeannette, Pa.
Tucker County, Moorefield Garner Victories
PARSONS — Brendan Miller had three hits and scored four runs to lead Tucker County past Trinity 10-5 Wednesday in Class A, Region II Section 3 tournament action.

Tygarts Valley and Tucker County will be among a handful of area teams competing in the Class A Region II track meet today at Lewis County High School.
Field events for the competition are slated to begin at 4 p.m.
Elkins Eliminates Lewis County
Elkins kept its season alive with a 7-2 win over Lewis County Wednesday night in Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 Tournament play at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.
