Staff Reports Lance VanNoy had three hits, five RBIs and scored two runs to lead Elkins past Grafton 14-3 in the Tigers’ season opener Wednesday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field. Spencer Webley added three hits, including a two-run home run for Elkins (0-1), which had 10 hits in the contest. Ryne Bonnell collected a two-run double and Heath Broughton had a run-scoring single. “We really hit the ball well tonight,” said Elkins coach Ted Williams. “We need to continue to do that each game.” Corey DeVall notched the win for the Tigers in 4 2/3 innings of relief. He gave up no runs on two hits, while walking two and striking out four. Nick Mayle had two hits to lead the Bearcats (1-1) at the plate. B.J. Markley took the loss for the Grafton in 1 1/3 innings of work. He gave up six runs on four hits. “This was a good opening day win for us,” said Williams. “Our pitching struggled to start the game, but Corey came in and pitched well.” Elkins will host Lewis County toda.
