It appears that the city of Buckhannon cannot think for itself. It wants to be considered a progressive city so it believes that it has to do whatever is the "new fad". It sounds as though they never thought about passing a "fairness act" until some organization brought it to their attention.

What happened to all of the churches in Buckhannon? Have they rewritten their bibles? The Buckhannon in which I grew up did not believe in homosexuality.

These comments are barbaric and reminiscent of ones segregationists made about black people in the 50s and 60s. I am proud to be from Randolph County. I have since moved away, and I enjoy sharing the Inter-Mountain with my friends from time to time, but the comments that accompany this article make me embarrassed that I have to defend something as basic as equal rights. Our founding documents state that ALL men are created equal, not just some. These same documents set the framework for the separation of church and state. Since that's the case, the church should have nothing to do with a decision involving city government. And if the churches are as close-minded as these comments make them sound, I'm not sure I would want them to be involved anyway. I applaud John Waltz for moving into the 21st Century and would urge anybody who thinks that homosexuality is a "new fad" or a choice to PLEASE do some scientific research.

Show me WHERE any law says it EXCLUDES anyone based on sexual PERVERSNESS??? It doesn't. THIS is just a bunch of godless, disgusting animals wanting everyone to tell them it's 'okay' to be a disgusting sickening pervert. Well it's NOT; it never has been and it never will be. God calls it an ABOMINATION and that's that. It's settled. What you want to do in your own home PRIVATELY we could care LESS. You're still sick and disgusting and perverted and we won't EVER ACCEPT it as anything else.

GOD doesn't make homosexual perverts; they DECIDE to be immoral and disgusting. No difference than when some hick decides to have sex with animals; they are animals!

CHOICE to be perverts doesn't make you 'special.' It makes you DISGUSTING!

21st century isn't thinking 21st century........these degenerates are thinking PAST not future. Sodom and Gommora sound familiar? It should; God destroyed them all for their "unnatural affections" which GOD calls an ABOMINATION; it still is!

As a straight Christian, I can not judge you for your hatred toward fellow man. However, very factually the American Medical Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Psychological Association, American Psychoanalytic Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics among others have released extensive scientific research showing that homosexuality is not a decision. It's available online and probably at the library. Further, although homosexuality is mentioned in the Bible, God or Jesus say nothing about it. Also, many Biblical scholars will point to other times "Sodomy" is mentioned in the Bible as not being hospitable to the less fortunate. Of course, the Bible also says that we shouldn't plant two different crops in the same field or wear clothes made of mixed fabric. These are all truths that can be proven in text and through research, so while homosexuality may not be a choice - homophobia is.

I think it's great that Buckhannon is promoting nondiscrimination. This is very progressive and forward thinking.
