Coal is not a clean energy source, no matter which way you slice it. I understand that improvements have been made, and I understand that you don't want to see WV lose jobs, but the sad fact of it is, the environment is something that needs serious attention. We can't keep using the same types of energy that we have been and expect there to be an inhabitable Earth for years and years to come.

Alternative energy might seem expensive now, but just like any innovation (cars, computers, etc.), investing money in it now will ultimately lead to prices dropping and it eventually becoming quite manageable cost-wise.

Aside from the fact that coal mining is dangerous, bad for the environment, and an eventual dead-end road, did you know, Puremagix, that coal actually costs the state of West Virginia more money than it creates? If you don't believe me, google the study by the West Virginia Center on Budget and Policy. (I can't post links, sorry.)

Also, coal mining jobs have actually increased under the Obama Administration (source: nonprofit Appalachian Forces). One of the main reasons this appears to not be the case around here is that many of the coal-mining jobs in the East are being replaced by coal-mining jobs in the West.

Finally, do you really think all that comes out is water vapor? Do you not understand basic chemistry? The combustioin of coal (carbon) creates water and carbon dioxide (if there is excess oxygen/proper ventilation) or carbon monoxide (if there is not excess oxygen/improper ventilation).

Funny What. You actually think our coal mines are 'played out?' Bwahahaha...now I KNOW how ignorant you are at least on natural resources. Yep; you're a democrat alright.
