Attending Monday’s meeting of Elkins City Council’s Sanitation/Landfill Committee meeting was kind of like watching an old Western movie....

This is what happens when there's no oversight on the people overseeing these projects. Buckhannon is in the worst shape I've ever seen it. The city streets are a mess, the pavement is falling apart, the streets are caving in on the south side of town near Wood & Randolph streets, and if it wasn't for the Strawberry Festival, Kanawha Street wouldn't get repaired at all. The water in Buckhannon smells like untreated river water, and if you wash your car this time of year, it will leave big, white spots on your car if you don't wipe it down after you wash it. Buckhannon is in the worst state of repair I've seen it in over the last 50 years, but they'll waste money on trash projects that don't amount to a hill of beans.

It is so dad that this is business as usual for Elkins.
So many issues in Elkins have been let go until they reach crisis level. Where is the new water treatment plant? Why are there so many unpaved/unmaintained alleys in Elkins? Why was the seperation of water and sewer not done properly in downtown Elkins? Some citizens have had to repair their own sewer/water drains and connectors and then have billed Elkins. Why is this not reported about in the paper? Elkins has three important utilities: water, sewer, and trash and they are all in big, big trouble.
