Tax laws becoming a sad, sick joke

April 26, 2014

Call me gullible. I track and pay the West Virginia Purchaser’s Use Tax. With only days to the deadline, I have yet to file my return. This is because of the hours involved in preparation....

Pay close attention here. I believe we need to scrap the IRS and institute a flat tax, say 5% at the cash register. EVERYONE pays it, you, me, the people in welfare, your US Senator, your Congressman/woman, I mean everyone. It would be the only FAIR tax code we ever had, and guess what? The government would have more money than they ever had to do what needs to be done. Do you know why? Under a flat tax system, the millions of people who have not been paying tax, will suddenly become a taxpayer. Study groups have shown that the government would collect more than 5 times the revenue it collects right now, and all without robbing one specific group of people blind, and letting others off the hook altogether. 5% will not hurt anyone, and again, it would be the only fair tax we would have. Even those evil corporations you hate so much would pay as well. See how simple that is?

So should a family of 4 earning $40k/year. The tax liabilty is zero due to child tax credit. And if they have add'l children they receive $2000 refund on top of paying zero. And so should the 41% of corporations with reported earnings.

"Many hours" to calculate?

The IT-140 looks simple. Total all purchases as listed, fill in the blank, and multiply by either .01 for food and. 06 for all other purchases that sales tax was not collected by seller. There is no comparing sales taxes of other states. How much crap do you buy that it tskes many hours? While it is impossible to enforce any upstanding ethical responsible citizen would do the right thing and pay their fair share.

You may want to check into this a little further. To my understanding, you only have to pay tax on out of state purchases if that company has a business location in WV, like Cabelas, Staples or Amazon. Check it out. If I'm correct, it could save you a lot of time and grief. The taxes in this country are getting ridiculous, and it's only going to get worse as the idiots in office keep wasting money causing a deficit.
