Even though I question the official numbers, we must come to the realization that it won't stop until we revamp the laws pertaining to abuse. There needs to be mandatory sentences for certain crimes, and the judges should not be able to reduce the mandatory sentences. If raping a child carries a 25 years sentence, then that person should not see the outside again until their 25 years are up.

Having said that, I also believe the liberalized system has expanded the term "abuse" until it's well outside the parameters for which it was intended. For instance, corporal punishment should not be considered abuse unless there are unusual circumstanced involved, like beating a child with a pipe. Broken bones are another extenuating circumstance. Spanking a child should never be so severe that a child sustains those typed of injuries.
