Douglas K. Summerfield, 30, a resident of Beverly, passed away at 11:03 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born Dec. 18, 1976, in Elkins, a son of Roger K. Summerfield of Elkins and the late Judy Ward Summerfield. In addition to his father, Doug is survived by his fiancé, Candi Light of Beverly; a sister, Amy Roberts of Summerset, Pa.; his maternal grandmother, Rachel Ward, a resident of the Good Samaritan Center at Belington; four uncles, Bob and Dave Summerfield and Butch and Charlie Ward, all of Elkins; an aunt, Cindy Talbott of Elkins; and several cousins.
Doug was employed as a correctional officer at Huttonsville Correctional Center. He was a member of the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in the Hazelwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department, Beverly, W.Va. 26253 in memory of Doug.
