Buckhannon Drops Pair; Morgantown Splits Tilts

TENNERTON?— Buckhannon dropped a pair of contest Thursday in opening round action of the Hillbilly Hardball Classic.

Post 7 bowed to Shinnston 5-3 in its tourney opener then fell at the hands of Potomac Valley 11-4 in Thursday’s late contest.

Chris Bunnell pitched six solid innings to lead Shinnston to its win over Buckhannon.

Tanner Collins took the loss for Post 7 in seven innings of work. Collins gave up only three hits and walked three. J.R. Tenney had three hits, while Taz Chidester had two.

Dakota Hoover and Bo Crites collected three hits each to power Potomac Valley in its win.

Shawn Hibbard notched the win for Post 64 in seven innings pitched. Hibbard fanned 12 Buckhannon batters.

Tenney suffered the loss for Post 7 in three innings of work. Tenney helped his own cause at the dish with two hits.

Beckley 18, Bridgeport 5

Mark Cuthbert had three hits and drove in three runs to lead Beckley past Bridgeport 18-5 Thursday at Davis & Elkins College.

Jeremy Buchanan followed with two hits and four RBIs. Buchanan also belted a solo home run for Post 32.

Bryan Hughes pitched a complete-game to capture the win on the hill for Beckley.

Harrison Musgrave took the loss for Post 68 in relief.

Brandon Cumpston had two hits, including a two-run homer to lead Post 68 at the plate.

Derek Gilbert added three hits, while Preston Musgrave had a single and scored two runs for Bridgeport.



French Creek Valley 8,

Morgantown 7

Aaron Schlaudecker and Matt Morian each had two hits to lead French Creek Valley past Morgantown 8-7 Thursday at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Schlaudecker earned the win on the mound for French Creek.

Ben Miller took the loss for Post 2 in six innings of work.

Michael Martin pitched an inning of relief for Morgantown.

Greg Hawkins had two hits and two RBIs to lead Post 2 at the plate.

Bryant Woods and Ryan Watts added RBI singles for Morgantown.

Hollidaysburg 9,

Moundsville 8

Kevin Cressman had three hits to lead Hollidaysburg past Moundsville 9-8 Thursday at Davis & Elkins College.

Andy Glass added a run-scoring single for Hollidaysburg. Patrick Smith notched the win in relief of Andrew Ford.

Ryan Lewick took the loss for Moundsville in seven innings pitched. Zac Perkey had two hits and two RBIs to lead Post 3 at the plate.

Shinnston 3, Jefferson 2

TENNERTON — Jacob Harmer and Chris Bunnell had two hits each to lead Shinnston to a 3-2 win over Jefferson Ohio Thursday at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Cody Ash got the win for Post 31 in relief of Josh McNemar.

Dustin Volanski took the loss for Post 152 in seven innings of work. Bobby Jewell and Ryan Morford had two hits apiece for Jefferson.

John York, Zak Graf and Brain Jewell each had one hit each for Post 152.

Kanawha Valley 6, Weirton 2

BUCKHANNON — Kyle Blank’s complete-game effort helped power Kanawha Valley to a 6-2 win over Weirton Thursday at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Chase Pickering had a solo home run for Post 94.

Chris Bittinger took the loss for Weirton. George Magnone had two hits for Post 10.

Meadville 11, Bridgeport 6

Dillon Tabar and Andy Nichols had two hits each to lead Meadville past Bridgeport 11-6 at Davis & Elkins College.

Mark Mason notched the win for Meadville in four innings of work.

Derek Gilbert had three hits to lead Bridgeport. Cameron Gallagher and Brandon Cumpston added two hits each.

Gallagher took the loss for Post 68.



Miffline County 9, Wickliffe 2

Ryan Keefer had two hits and scored two runs to lead Mifflin County past Wickliffe 9-2 Thursday at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

Nate Saltzer took the win for Mifflin County.

Matt Hogya took the loss for Wickliffe Ohio. Sterling Harris and Joe Sinchak had RBI singles for Wickliffe.

Morgantown 3, Moundsville 1

Ryan Watts had three hits as Morgantown defeated Moundsville 3-1 Thursday in eight innings at Robin Harvey Memorial Field.

Greg Hawkins, Bryant Woods and Watts tallied home runs for Post 2.

Cole Mertins earned the win for Morgantown in eight innings of work. Mertins scattered seven hits, walked one and struck out three.

Andrew Robinson took the loss for Post 3 in 7 2/3 innings. Jessie Perssinger had two hits for Moundsville.

Jefferson 8, Weirton 5

TENNERTON — Matt Freeman pitched six strong innings to lead Jefferson Ohio past Weirton 8-5 Thursday at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Zak Graf, Ryan Morford and J.D. Drews each had two hits, while Dustin Volanski hit a solo homerun for Post 152.

Geroge Magnone took the loss for Post 10 in a complete-game effort.

Chris Khouri had a three-run home run for Post 10.
