Speed and failure to wear a seat belt contributed to the death of a Philippi man in a Friday evening wreck, according to Cpl. J.R. Fletcher of the Parsons detachment of the West Virginia State Police.
Doward Eugene Matlick, 35, was traveling west on State route 38 at approximately 6:30 p.m. when the 2006 Chevrolet truck, owned by Sunrise Construction Co., traveled off the road and struck and embankment, police said. The truck then rolled over, at which time Matlick was ejected.
Police said Matlick was pronounced dead at the scene.
