A Buckhannon man remains in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $55,000 bond after he was arrested and charged with two counts of battery, destruction of property, both misdemeanors, and burglary, a felony, after an incident that occurred Saturday in Buckhannon.

According to the report, Gregory Riggs, 51, went to the residence of David Rexroad at 3 Lincoln Way with the intent of making physical contact with Rexroad. Riggs allegedly jerked the front door open and then pushed, hit and shoved Rexroad over a chair and against the wall. When Riggs realized there were other people present, he walked out. On his way out, he picked up a wrought iron table with a glass top and threw it against the front door breaking the glass.

Riggs was arraigned before Upshur County Magistrate Juanita Adams, who set bond at $30,000 cash and $25,000 surety.

If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail and a fine up to $500 on the battery and destruction of property charges and one to 15 years in prison on the burglary charge.

The incident was investigated by Deputy Theron Caynor of the Upshur County Sheriff's Department.
