10th Cunningham 5K Run Slated for Aug. 16
The 10th annual Kenneth Cunningham 5K Memorial Cross Country Run will take place Aug. 16 at the Davis &?Elkins College athletic field, the former site of West Virginia's state high school cross country championship.
The 5K course has challenging turns in the upper trail that winds throughout a cool, wooded area and the lower trail includes two wide streams to cross on the way to the finish line.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. for the day's activities of a two-mile trail walk race to begin at 8 a.m.; a 400-meter run for kids age 7 and younger at 8:45 a.m.; a half-mile mini-cross country run for kids ages 8 to 11 at 9:15 a.m.; and a 5K cross country run at 10 a.m.
The 5K cross country features an individual/team concept with the teams for the men and women being randomly chosen after "last minute registration" closes.
Team medals and awards will be given in each of the races. Overall winners in each race will be excluded from placing in the age divisions. All finishers will receive a ribbon and door prizes will be given to random participants.
