Winners Named in Queen’s Quilt Contest

Jackie Harper of Bridgeport was named the winner of the Randolph County Community Educational Outreach?Service's queen's quilt contest. The 2009 quilt for Queen Silvia LXXIII was on display at Ideal Material Shoppe during the Mountain State Forest Festival.

For her first-place win, Harper received a $25 gift certificate to the Elkins Sewing Center.

The second-place winner was Becky O'Brien of Elkins, who received a $15 gift certificate from the Ideal Material Shoppe, and third place went to Julia?Brumfield of Huntington, who received a $10 gift certificate from Ideal Material Shoppe.

Other blue ribbon winners were: Katie Totten of Elkins, Sandra Godwin of Montrose, Mary Anger of Elkins, Betty Roberts of Elkins, Isabell Swecker of Beverly, Lauren Brumfield of Huntington, Kim Anger of Elkins, Monica Varchetto of Elkins, Katie Harris of Montrose, Bonnie Leary of Beverly and Alberta Higgins of Elkins. Red ribbons went to Elizabeth Hayes of Elkins, Diana Patterson of Helvetia, Anna Ratliff of Montrose, Dorothy Nine of Montrose and Sandra Bennett of Montrose.

White ribbon winners were: Bonnie Ratliff of Montrose and Barbara Douglas of Kerens. Green ribbon participants were: Kerry Wilson of Elkins, Louise See of Valley Head, Lauren Brumfield of Huntington, Eleanor Gay of Elkins, Isabell Swecker of Beverly, Leslie White of Helvetia, Becky O'Brien of Elkins and Elkins Sewing Center.

Quilt squares for the 2010 Queen's Quilt will be available for distribution in January 2009.

The contest is sponsored annually by the CEOS in conjunction with the West Virginia Cooperative Extension office and the Mountain State Forest Festival.
