Hobert L. Crites Jr., 72, resident of Chambers Drive in Weaverville, N.C., passed away Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, in Mountain Manor Assisted Living in Burnsville, N.C.

He was born Dec. 28, 1953, in Philippi, a son of the late Hobert L. Crites Sr. and Audra (Auvil) Crites.

He was united in marriage Feb. 14, 1959, to Ethel E. (Fodor) Crites, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Cherrie (Crites) and husband, Rob Foster, of Weaverville, N.C.; one son, Robert Dale Crites of Mount Holly, N.C.; two sisters, E. Jean and husband, Jack Propst, of Philippi and Nina Lou Crites of Newport, Ore.; two brothers, Don Crites of Charleston, S.C., and Edward Joe and wife, Linda Crites, of Cross City, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Justin, Elizabeth, Jessica and Emily Crites, Jonathan Knotts, Jennifer Triplett and Jessica Foster; two great-grandchildren, Trace and Gracelyn Crites.

Mr. Crites worked at Sears Robuck Co. as a retail and merchandise and fashions salesman and with Interiors by Decorating Den corporate retails manager and marketing in North Carolina. Mr. Crites served in the U.S. Army in 1958-1959. He was a member of the Norfolk Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, President Land of the Sky Shrine Club in Swannanoa, N.C., Warren Wilson College Alumni and he participated in the Asheville Chapter Barbershop Harmony Society. Mr Crites was also a member of the Myers Park Baptist Church.

Hobert Crites touched many lives and will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the service hour, with Rev. Linda Payton officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with the honor guard of the American Legion Post 44 conducting military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the President Land of the Sky Shrine Club 39, Spring Cove Road, Swannanoa, N.C. 28778. Wright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
