The Inter-Mountain

The eighth annual West Virginia Fishing, Hunting & Outdoor Sports Show will be held Feb. 28 and March 1 at the new Hazel & J.W. Ruby Community Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

Recognized as the largest outdoor show in northern West Virginia, the event will feature over 100 vendor booths representing outdoor businesses from all over the U.S. and Canada, including Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Woodlands World and Dick's Sporting Goods.

"We are so excited for this year's show," says Labeth Hall of PR Plus Events, organizer of the event. "We have grown into the largest event center in the area and we will have over 53,000 square feet of boats, campers, atv's, motorcycles, RV's, truck bed liners, trailers and much more. We have added a lot of new vendors, as well as many new attractions and seminars this year."

For those who are serious fisherman, they will find Canadian fishing trips, bait, tackle, reels, area fishing guides, as well as numerous charter boat captains from the Great Lakes. Professional anglers will be on hand throughout the show doing seminars and demonstrations.

The avid hunter can browse through archery equipment, guns, knives, taxidermists and camo gear. There will be turkey calls and a variety of new hunting products. Outfitters will be there to book bear, elk, whitetail, wild boar and moose trips.

"Among the new attractions are antique and collectable guns from Cabela's Gun Library," Hall adds. "We are very excited to have Cabela's as a major sponsor this year. They have an amazing store and they will be giving away discount coupons as well as selling merchandise at their booth."

Other new attractions include the Mountain Magic Monster Buck Trailer, as well as a 25 foot trailer full of Extreme Reptiles including a 22 foot python, cobras, black momba and rattlesnakes. A World Record Black Bear will be on display, along with dozens of animals from the WVU Division of Forestry and Natural Resource Museum.

Thousands of outdoorsman are expected to attend the show, but Hall encourages the men to bring their families. "We have a 'Family Fun Zone' for everyone to enjoy. There will be games, a mountain climbing wall, gold mine panning, exotic animals from Hovatter's Zoo and more" Hall says.

Seminars and demonstrations will take place both days. There will be coyote trapping and snaring, deer hunting, bass fishing, trout fishing and turkey hunting. Back by popular demand this year is "The Wild World of Animals Show" which will be held on Sunday at 2:00pm. This entertaining and educational seminar features numerous animals including a hyena, leopard, monkeys, an alligator, a crocodile, a skunk and many other unique creatures. Families are encouraged to come early to reserve a seat.

Show hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door and admission is $6 for adults, children 7-12 are $1, and there is no charge for kids under 6 years. The first 100 people each day will receive a FREE gift.
