Two die in Beverly collision

Two Randolph County men were killed Saturday morning as the result of a head-on collision near Beverly.
At approximately 7:05 a.m. Derek Ray Fortney, 19, of Valley Head was driving a Ford Ranger and traveling north on U.S. 219. Police said Fortney's vehicle veered into the southbound lanes of the road and hit a Chevrolet truck operated by William D. Baisden, 62, of Elkins.
Baisden was traveling south on the highway and was transporting mail for the U.S. Postal Service, according to West Virginia State Police Sgt. G.L. Stalnaker.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by Randolph County Coroner Brenda Dailey.
The accident is still under investigation by Trooper S.E. Heavener and Sr. Trooper G.S. DeWeese.
Police were assisted at the scene by the Elkins and Beverly fire departments and the West Virginia Division of Highways.
