Augusta presents first of two Irish concerts

Dozens of the world's finest Irish musicians and dancers will be on the campus of Davis & Elkins College this week as part of Augusta Heritage Center's Irish/Celtic Week. In addition, hundreds of students from throughout the United States, Canada and abroad come for the week to learn from these artists in classes, informal sessions, special workshops and performances.
On Tuesday evening, Irish music and dance will be presented in a concert open to public. Among the many Irish musicians featured will be Joanie Madden on whistle and flute, Mirella Murray on piano accordion and Kathleen Boyle on piano. The three are members of the famous all-women group Cherish the Ladies. Other performers featured this week will be Martin Quinn on button accordion, Angelina Carberry on tenor banjo, Myron Bretholz on bodhran, Edel Fox on concertina, Patrick Ourceau on fiddle, Yvonne and Liz Kane on fiddle, Kevin Crawford on flute, Jem Moore on hammered dulcimer, Eileen Gannon on harp, vocalist Dan Milner, vocalist and guitar player Robbie O'Connell, Cillian Vallely on Uilleann pipes, Brendon Dolan on whistle and John Skelton on flute. Augusta is also proud to feature on the stage two renowned dancers, Donny Golden and Anne McCallum.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. and doors open at 7:30 p.m. in the Harper-McNeeley Auditorium on the Davis & Elkins College campus. Concert admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors older than 60 and youth younger than 12. A ceili dance will be in the open-air pavilion immediately following the concert. Dance admission is included in the concert price or $5 per person for those who do not attend the concert.
