Shepherd too much for Wesleyan; D&E women blank USV

BUCKHANNON?-?Shepherd (5-2, 4-1) raced to a 38-0 halftime lead and held homestanding West Virginia Wesleyan (1-5, 1-3) to 133 yards of total offense in a 45-6 rout.

Tommy Addison rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns, while Nate Hoyte added 86 yards and two touchdowns as Shepherd dominated via the ground game. Kevin Clancy hit on 9 of 13 passes for 115 yards to help SU own a 382-133 edge in total offense.

Derek Moore had field goals of 34 and 27 yards accounted for the only Bobcat points.

Wesleyan will host Fairmont State next Saturday for a West Virginia Conference matchup.

Womens College Soccer

Davis & Elkins 7, Southern 0

BUENA?VISTA Va. - Cole Dant and Kim?Brown had two goals each to lead Davis & Elkins past Southern Virginia 7-0 Saturday in non-conference action.

Megan Beal, Sarah Fyock and Luci Legaspi added scores for the Lady Senators (10-2), who led 6-0 at halftime.

Davis & Elkins will travel to California?(Pa.) on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt.

Wesleyan 2, Edinboro 1

BUCKHANNON?- Sarah Snyder and Mallory Smith had goals to lead Wesleyan past Edinboro 2-1 Saturday in non-conference action.

Brittany Clark and Courtney Cole each had assists for the Lady Bobcats (5-6-1).

Wesleyan outshot Edinboro 19-8 in the contest and held an 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Madison Edwards had three saves in goal for West Virginia Wesleyan.

The Lady Bobcats will travel to Concord today for a West Virginia Conference tilt.

College Cross Country

GLENVILLE?- The Davis & Elkins women's cross country team placed third Saturday at the Glenville State Invitational.

The Lady Senators were led by Julanna Warner's 19th place finish (31:05).

Other finishers for D&E?include: Amber Kocela (20th, 31:17), Megan Gyongyosi (21st, 31:28), Marie Friend (37th, 36:12), Victoria Fearey (43rd, 39:37) and Barbara Fellenstein (47th, 44:59).

Davis & Elkins men's team placed fourth and was led by Kris Gorbea (17th, 31:59)

Dustin Mathers (18th, 32:00), Ryan Lichtner (19th, 32:18), Anthony Hancock (31st, 33:44) Joe Altobelli (38th, 35:45), Derek Sparks (40th, 36:09) and Josh Handrahan (46th, 40:23) followed for D&E.

Davis & Elkins will travel to Gannon on Saturday.

Middle School?

Cross Country

FAIRMONT - The Elkins Middle School boys cross country team placed first at the Times Invitational on Saturday.

Top runners for the Hornets include: Austin Hamrick (6th, 13:15), Chris Bodkins (14th, 13:33), Dalton Bobes (19th, 13:43), Mason Schoonover (24th, 13:49), Matthew Wallace (30th, 14:04), Remington Knight (44th, 14:34) and Adam Haddix (53rd, 14:41).

The Lady Hornets finished second overall and was led by Shai Swecker (12th, 15:11), Kathlynne Simmons (15:20), Monica Rossi (23rd, 15:35), Olivia Deville (30th, 15:58), Haley Truman (36th, 16:09), Hailea Harper (37th, 16:09) and Skout Barger (79th, 17:45).

Elkins will travel to Doddridge County Tuesday.

High School?Football

Lewis County 44,

Preston 0

KINGWOOD - Lewis County defeated Preston 44-0 Friday in non-conference action.

Ethan Wilson had 10 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Minutemen (5-2).

C.J. Rahming added 63 yards rushing and had a 27-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Lewis County will host Philip?Barbour on Friday for a Big 10 title.
