Sheriff: Wet roads may have caused accident on Rich Mountain

By CARRA HIGGINS, Staff Writer
POSTED: October 16, 2009

A Petersburg teen was injured during a two-vehicle accident on Rich Mountain near Harman Wednesday at approximately 4 p.m.

Kayla J. Whitlock, 19, was traveling east on U.S. 33 when she lost control of the Plymouth Laser she was driving, Randolph County Sheriff J.D. Roy said. Whitlock attempted to correct the vehicle, crossed the center line and struck a Chevrolet truck driven by Oaky R. Sycafoose, 38, of Huttonsville.

Sycafoose was not injured, Roy said. However, authorities did not know Whitlock's condition.

Whitlock was charged but not cited for failure to maintain control. Roy said wet roads covered with leaves may have been a factor that caused the accident.
