Health department sets H1N1 clinics
The Randolph-Elkins Health Department has scheduled multiple H1N1 inoculation clinics for children and young adults ages 6 months to 24 years.
Vaccinations will be by nasal mist unless the patient qualifies for injection because of pregnancy or other underlying illnesses.
Pregnant women are only required to have one dose of the vaccine whereas children younger than 10 will need two doses at least four weeks apart.
A consent form signed by a parent or guardian is required for children younger than 18. These forms will be provided to the schools and will be available at the health department.
All children in fifth grade or younger will also need to have a parent or guardian present to receive a vaccination.
All homeschool and private school students should attend the clinic in their community.
Once the clinics for pregnant women and children have concluded, the health department will schedule other clinics for people suffering from chronic illness who are also considered at risk.
Children's clinics are scheduled throughout the county at the following locations and times:
- Harman School, Monday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Nov. 30, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Coalton Elementary School, Wednesday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Dec. 2, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Beverly Fire Hall, Nov. 3, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Dec. 8, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Mill Creek Fire Hall, Nov. 5, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Dec. 15, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Elkins National Guard Armory, Nov. 11 from noon to 4 p.m.; Nov. 19 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; and Dec. 17 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
During the Beverly clinic, the health department will give vaccinations to area children and students of Beverly and Homestead elementary schools. The Mill Creek clinic will be for students of George Ward, Tygarts Valley Middle and High schools as well as area youth.
Because of the number of children in the Elkins area, the National Guard Armory will host the clinic for all of the Elkins schools.
