Belington-based band Shaffer has just released its fifth CD, "Believe." The band, formerly called The Shaffers, is comprised of Dave Shaffer, his wife, Trish, daughter, Cassie Shaffer-Hymes, and her husband, Mike Hymes. They have been performing professionally since 2000, garnering national attention and opening for such artists as Sugarland, Jason Crabb, the Hoppers and 4Him.

"'Believe' is a project intended to affect all ages," lead vocalist Shaffer-Hymes said. "We really feel like this project identifies who we are as artists."

"Believe" contains 10 songs, including five co-written by Shaffer-Hymes, and will appeal to fans of Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, the Crabb Family, 33 Miles and Martina McBride, Shaffer-Hymes said. It was produced by Phil Cross and was recorded in Crossroads Studio in Ashville, N.C.

"This is a collection of songs of encouragement, hope and praise," Shaffer-Hymes said.

The title track of the project, "I Believe," is born out of Shaffer-Hymes' own testimony. "This song is deeply personal for me. I wrote it from my experience battling cancer and it is a statement of faith that no matter what we face, we believe that God is ultimately in control and will guide us through our difficult times," she said.

"This is a CD that we have envisioned making for the last few years and are thrilled at the opportunity to finally be able to take what we believe is a huge step forward for us as a band," she said. "It is our prayer that through this new project others will have their own belief strengthened."

Shaffer will be performing songs from "Believe" as well as their other four CDs at Summit Church in Elkins on Sunday at 6 p.m.
