Elkins’ Propst, PB’s McCauley strong at meet

ONA - Elkins' Letitia Propst and Philip Barbour's Sarah McCauley both placed third at the West Virginia state cross country meet at Cabell Midland High School on Saturday.
Propst, who is a two-time Class AAA state champion, finished with a time of 19:41.
"I just didn't have it today," said Propst after the race. "I did my absolute best and I'm happy about that. I obviously can't get back the weeks of training that I missed do to my injury, but I still finished third in the state. It's a great accomplishment and I'll be back next year."
McCauley finished with a time of 20:29 for Philip Barbour in the Class AA-A competition.
"I had a good night the night before the race and I was determined to place in the top ten and try for a state title," said McCauley. "I was very honored and happy to get a third place finish. I hope for another chance to win it next year."
Alex Dent from Hurricane won the overall Class AAA girls title with a time of 19:15.
Jefferson won the overall girls title with a score of 73. University 80, Hurricane 98, North Marion 103 and Cabell Midland 126 followed.
Buckhannon-Upshur, who finished 10th in the team standings, was led by Shaina Kopelov with a 46th place with of 21:54.
Other finishers for the Lady Bucs were: Reba Cutright (48th, 21:56), Stephanie Barlow (51st, 22:10), Casey Orsburn (65th, 23:21), Casey Thorpe (69th, 23:40), Caitlin Warner (70th, 23:41) and Liana Kopelov (71st, 23:46).
Freshmen Maggie Drazba from St. Mary's claimed the Class AA, A girls title with a time of 20:08.
St. Marys won the overall team title with a time of 81, followed by Grafton 87, Berkeley Springs 88, Shady Springs 89 and Philip Barbour 89.
Other finishers for the Lady Colts include: Brianna Waybright (6th, 21:25) Amber Abbott (20th, 22:23), Mercedes Jacobs (70th, 26:02), Mary Beth Long (72nd, 27:00) and Casey George (75th, 28:01).
Buckhannon-Upshur's Justin Miller placed 28th with a time of 18:08.
Elkins, who finished ninth as a team, was led by Ben Proudfoot who placed 30th with a time of 18:13.
"I was really happy about my performance today," said Proufoot. "It was simply the best I could do, and I can certainly live with that.It meant so much to me to have participated in the state meet all four years of my career. And to qualify as a team again this year was just great."
Other finishers for the Tigers include: Zach Burnside (50th, 18:48), Dylan Lewis (67th, 19:33), Corey DeVall (79th, 19:50), James White (82nd, 20:10), Karl Smakula (86th, 20:17) and Nathaniel Simmons (96th, 21:30).
Philip Barbour was led by Riley Freeman's sixth place time of 17:48.
Other finishers for the Colts include Chris Toompas (8th, 17:57) and Charles Anderson (16th, 18:26).
In Class AA-A, David Rhodes from Tucker County placed seventh with a time of 17:49.
Drew Woodford from Grafton took the individual title with a time of 17:09.
Grafton won the team title with score of 57. Berkeley Springs 98, Scott 103, Richwood 106 and Doddridge County 108 followed.
