Parsons considers budget cuts
By ALEC RADER, Staff WriterAfter months of drawing from the general fund and other financial constraints, the Parsons City Council is considering the possibility of budget cuts across all departments, except the garbage department, according to City Administrator Jason Myers. Council will take up the issue in regular session at 6 p.m. today at the Parsons Municipal Building.
Myers also said the discussion is the result of the compound of bond payments, renting of aerators for the sewer pond and a short fall of more than $27,000 in property taxes. The cuts may, if necessary, include possible layoffs.
Myers said that all of the budget cuts will be discussed in open session unless it involves personnel.
Other agenda items include special guest Robert "Bob" Jacobus with Region VII, who will present the Source Water Assessment and Protection Plan.
Council will consider action on any updates of the various projects the city is pursuing. Some of those include the Downtown Master Plan, Sanitary Sewer Collection System Improvements, First and Second Streets Streetscape Project and others.
Under new business, council will consider a date, time and theme of the 2009 Parsons Christmas Parade and the sale of the warehouse on Pennsylvania Avenue.
