Buckhannon police officers arrest two on fraud charges
Two Buckhannon residents were arrested by city police officers after trying to pass a forged prescription at a local drug store.
On Monday, police responded to Thompson's Pharmacy on Main Street after receiving a call from a store employee that someone was attempting to pass a forged prescription. Upon arrival it was discovered that Brenda Faye Harmon, 45, and Gilbert Arnett, 34, had passed the prescription attempting to obtain Hydrocodone, a schedule II narcotic. Both Harmon and Arnett were still at the drug store when police arrived.
The pair was charged with one count each of attempting to obtain prescription medicine by fraud, a felony, according to a prepared statement from the Buckhannon Police Department.
Both Harmon and Arnett were arraigned before Upshur County Magistrate J. Michael Coffman, who set bond at $8,000 for Harmon and $45,000 for Arnett. Both are currently free on bond.
If convicted, they face one to three years in prison, or six to 12 months in jail and a fine of $500.
The incident is being investigated by Mark Stewart of the BPD and is ongoing with further charges possibly pending.
