Parades, dinners and memorial dedications are scheduled throughout the area this week to honor those who have served the country in the armed services. Veterans Day is celebrated on Nov. 11, the day Germany signed the Armistice that ended World War I.

Following the ceremony at the All Veterans Monument, at 12:15 a.m. Davis & Elkins College will dedicate the Pullman Room in Halliehurst as the Veterans Lounge on campus. D&E Director of Communications and Marketing Carol Schuler said the lounge will serve as a place for veterans to gather and relax.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3647 Veterans Day Dinner will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the post home in Elkins. The public is welcome at the dinner and admission is $3.

American Legion Post No. 29 will host a Veterans Day Dinner at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Post Home on the corner of Fourth Street and Railroad Avenue in Elkins. Retired U.S. Marine Gareth Smith will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $3 and available at the Post Home.
