The Lady Colts (26-12-6), which last won the Class AA state title back in 2005; advanced after finishing runners-up in Regional II tournament where they defeated Keyser in their first game, but lost to Frankfort in the championship.

"Anytime you advance to the state tournament its always a plus," said Philip Barbour coach Heather Halfin. "The girls have had a good week of practice and are ready to go down there."

Philip Barbour is led by Sarah McCauley with 658 assists and 61 blocks, while Victoria Shomo follows with 271 kills and 97 blocks.

"We are capble of playing very well," said Halfin. "It just depends on what team shows up and plays as a team."

Wayne (29-8) advanced to the state tournament after winning the Class AA, Region II final over Tolsia last week.

Wayne is led by seniors Taylor Queen who is the teams setter and middle hitters Makaylyn Baker and Jennifer Webb.

"We haven't seen Wayne play this year," said Halfin. "We have to prepare for any team that is in the state tournament."

The Philip Barbour/Wayne winner will play either Ritchie County or Summers County in the second round of the tournament on Friday.

The championship round will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.
