Smoke Hole Caverns re-opened for business Friday after being closed since Tuesday.
According to Jill Teets, general manager of Smoke Hole Resort and Caverns, travelers visiting the caverns can now purchase tickets at the A-frame chalet located adjacent to the caverns entrance and next to the Smoke Hole log motel, located on Route 28, seven miles south of Petersburg.
The caverns, a popular Grant County tourist attraction, closed Tuesday after fire destroyed the building that housed the company's restaurant, gift shop and cavern ticket area.
"We have resumed our normal operating hours," said Teets. "Visitors can also find gifts and souvenirs in the chalet."
For guests lodging at the resort, the check-in and reservation area has been moved to the resort's Main Lodge, located three miles north of the caverns on Route 28/55.
Plans include opening a new gift shop in the conference room of the lodge at the log cabin resort area and rebuilding the gift shop at the caverns location.
Teets also noted that with hunting season approaching, the resort still offers for purchase state hunting and fishing licenses. Licenses can be purchased at the lodge at Smoke Hole Resort.
