Alderson-Broaddus College President Dr. J. Michael Clyburn gave members of the Elkins Rotary Club a brief update on the history of the college on Nov. 9 and discussed being a Rotarian in faraway Australia several years ago.
"I was a Rotarian in a club about as far from Elkins as you can get," he said. "It is good to be visiting members of a club so much closer to home."
Clyburn gave an update on the college's current programs and those that are being upgraded such as the physician's assistant program. He also noted that A-B is working closely with Davis & Elkins and West Virginia Wesleyan colleges in various ways that will help advance the academic experiences of all the students.
"I believe that our small colleges provide a degree of caring and support that can be found nowhere else - especially in the larger colleges and universities where so many times students feel they are a number rather than an individual," he said.
"A-B College is like a family where we go the extra mile to help the students achieve their goals," Clyburn said. "And even during these days of economic doldrums the college is growing and we are working to further expand our services and learning opportunities. Of all the things that I enjoy about working at a small private college, I like working with the students best of all. Helping students achieve their goals is what education is all about."
