Health department makes revisions to H1N1 clinics

POSTED: November 18, 2009

The Randolph-Elkins Health Department continues to receive influenza vaccines, though not the quantity expected. Therefore, hours for the H1N1 vaccination clinic on Thursday will be reduced.

"We do have quite a bit of H1N1 vaccine for babies ages 6 months through 35 months," Clinical Director Deborah Stout said, "and will receive some for ages 3 years to 24 years. There will be some nasal flu mist available at each clinic. Clinics will stay open until we run out of vaccine, then, when we get more, we'll do more," Stout said.

"We urge people to dress for the weather in case they have to wait outside for awhile," said Bonnie Woodrum, RN. "And wear clothing that will leave the arms easily accessible. That will make lines move more quickly. It will be up to parents to restrain their children, if that is necessary. Health department workers cannot restrain children for injections."

Upcoming clinics include:

- Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in?Elkins. Target group: Children 6 months to 24 years old.

- Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the health department. Target group: Mothers with babies younger than 6 months, pregnant women and babies ages 6 months to 35 months.

A seasonal flu clinic will take place Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This clinic is for people of all ages.
