The holiday season is upon us and brings with it an opportunity to celebrate the life of loved ones. Hospice Care Corp.'s annual "Light Up a Life" event continues through Dec. 30 offering a way to remember loved ones who have passed away or honor those living who are suffering illnesses.
For the past 26 years, Hospice Care has hosted its "Light Up a Life" annual campaign to raise money for the organization's patient care services. Hospice Care of northcentral West Virginia is one of the oldest nonprofit hospice organizations which provides end-of-life care for people who have life-limiting illnesses without the ability to pay.
"By supporting 'Light Up a Life,' you are also helping us to help our families, friends and neighbors," said Cynthia Woodyard, vice president of Public Affairs and Access. "All of the money we raise stays here in West Virginia."
For a donation, individuals can place a light, ornament or a special keepsake angel on a tree in any of the participating locations. Donations are made in memory or honor of a friend or loved one. Everyone who is remembered or honored is entered into a memory book, which is on display throughout the season.
Lights, ornaments and the handmade keepsake angels are available. Lights can be sponsored for $5, ornaments for $20 and the porcelain keepsake angel is $35. All donations are tax deductible.
Several tree-lighting ceremonies will be conducted in Randolph and Tucker counties.
In Randolph County, people can attend one of two tree lightings. One will be at the Randolph County Courthouse in Elkins and the second one will be at Mountain Valley Bank in Mill Creek, both on Dec. 1.
In Tucker County, people can join the festivities at Citizens Bank on Dec. 4 at 5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
