Woman dies in Barbour crash
By BEN SIMMONS, Staff WriterA single vehicle crash near Volga claimed the life of an Upshur County woman Tuesday afternoon.
According to a prepared statement from the Philippi Detachment of the West Virginia State Police, a Chevy S-10 pickup truck traveled off the Murphy Station Road at approximately 4:45 p.m. The vehicle struck a fence, causing the fence post to enter the driver's side compartment, killing the 34-year old woman behind the wheel. Two other occupants in the vehicle were taken by ambulance to Broaddus Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Officials had not released the name of the deceased by press time today.
West Virginia State Police Cpl. M.P. Denison is investigating the accident. Also responding to the scene were the Barbour County Emergency Squad, the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department, the Barbour County Sheriff's Department and the Barbour County Medical Examiner.
