Sheriff planning ‘Shop with an Officer’

POSTED: December 1, 2009

Lewis County Sheriff Michael R. Gissy and his deputies are planning a "Shop with and Officer" program to take place in December.

This event is being planned to benefit local children, according to Gissy. The shopping event will take place locally and children will be supervised by Lewis County deputies and other volunteers.

Anyone who wants to make a donation to support this program can mail their contribution to: Shop with an Officer, P.O. Box 150, Weston, W.Va. 26452. Donations may also be dropped off at the sheriff's tax office on Center Avenue by Dec. 7. Checks should be made payable to "Shop with an Officer."

This same type of shopping spree was conducted last year and was well attended by several deserving children.

"I am hoping to continue this valuable and important program again this year," Gissy said. "It gives the children an opportunity to see that law enforcement officers are ordinary people and that we care."
