Celebrated jazz pianist Bob Thompson will bring his Charleston-based band, The Bob Thompson Unit, to the Randolph County Community Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for an evening of jazz-infused holiday favorites.

Tickets for this 2009-2010 Performing Arts Evening Concert are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.

Thompson is perhaps best known locally for his role as the house pianist for Mountain Stage - "an eclectic, Charleston-based weekly music broadcast on Public Radio International that's featured everyone from R.E.M. to K.D. Lang to The Neville Brothers." But his professional musical career has spanned more than 30 years and has included the release of several widely-acclaimed solo albums as well as the creation of his own record label, colortones.com.

His latest collaboration, The Bob Thompson Unit, blends jazz standards with imaginative interplay by members Tim Courts, drums; Doug Payne, saxophone; Chris Allen, bassist; and Ryan Kennedy, guitar. One reviewer described The Bob Thompson Unit as "smooth and mellow at one moment and hard and driving at the next, indicating the wide array of influences the young jazz soldiers bring to the group."

Tickets may be purchased from the RCCAC office located at 2 Park St., across from Elkins City Park, and at the door on the evening of the performance while seating is available. Credit card sales can also be taken by calling 304-637-2355. For more information, visit www.randolpharts.org.
