"We want to get the word out that the Census is simple, secure and safe."
Robin McClintock,
2010 Census worker
A 2010 Census worker has invited the Upshur County Commission to participate in a regional road trip event that will be coming to the West Virginia Wesleyan College campus next month.
Robin McClintock said an informational van will be on the campus during the afternoon of Jan. 27, providing the community with information on the upcoming Census.
"We want to get the word out that the Census is simple, secure and safe," she said.
McClintock said questionnaires will be mailed to households some time in March, and residents are asked to return them in April. The Census department, by law, is not allowed to divulge the information to any other governmental agency, and that information will be used to determine federal funding for community services.
The forms will contain "10 simple, non-invasive questions," McClintock said.
She said schools across the country have been given lesson plans involving geography, math and civics so that students can learn more about the Census.
McClintock said the government will be hiring locally for workers to fill some positions. She said the jobs offer flexible, part-time hours and will run from January to June. Those interested should call 1-866-861-2010.
In other matters, the commissioners confirmed the Upshur County Board of Education's appointing of Doug Bush to the county's Park Board.

Someone needs to remind the people of this state that the only questions you are required to answer by law is how many people are living in your home and verification of your address. No other questions pertaining to income or if you own firearms etc: need to be answered. Nothing else will be answered at this household and there had better not be anyone from ACORN show up at my house or they are going to get a very unfriendly greeting.
