Unemployment rate rises in area counties
By ANTHONY GAYNOR, Staff WriterThe unemployment rate in West Virginia climbed two-tenths of a percentage point to 7.9 percent in November. All area counties also reported an increase in the unemployment.
According to Workforce West Virginia, unemployment rates for November in area counties were reported as:
- Randolph County, 9.3 percent, up from 8.7 percent in October.
- Barbour County, 9.2 percent up, from the 8.9 percent in October.
- Lewis County, 7.8 percent, up from 7.6 percent in October.
- The rate in Upshur County rose .3 percent from 8.3 percent in October to 8.6 percent in November.
- Pocahontas County reported the highest November unemployment rate in area counties and the second highest in the state at 13.3 percent, up from 10.6 percent in October.
- Tucker County reported a rate of 11 percent in November, up from the 10.4 percent in October.
- In Pendleton County, the rate rose from October's 6.8 percent to 7.5 percent.
- The rate in Hardy County rose to 9.6 percent in November from 8.9 percent in October.
- In Grant County, the rate rose from 10.6 percent in October to 11.7 percent in November.
