Money missing in county clerk’s office again

By BEN SIMMONS and ANTHONY GAYNOR, Staff Writers
POSTED: December 31, 2009

Money is missing from the Randolph County Clerk's Office and an investigation is underway, Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Richard T. Busch announced Wednesday.

According to a prepared statement, Bush said the investigation began when County Clerk Brenda Wiseman discovered discrepancies in an account and reported it to the Randolph County Commission. He said the commissioners "commended the diligent work of Wiseman in finding and reporting the discrepancies."

According to Busch, the Randolph County Sheriff's Department is conducting the investigation with the assistance of the State Auditor's Office. He said the investigation is ongoing and further information could not be released. However, should charges be filed, Bush said the Randolph County Prosecutor's office has indicated that a special prosecutor will be necessary.

Randolph County Commission President Mike Taylor said he learned of the investigation on Monday. He declined comment this morning saying questions are being referred to Bush due to the sensitivity of the case.

A secretary in Busch's office said this morning that Busch would not make any further comment on the investigation.

According to Randolph County Sheriff Jack Roy, Deputy A.G. Vanscoy is handling the investigation.

Former Randolph County Clerk Rosezetta Lloyd was convicted on a misdemeanor charge of embezzling funds from the office and was sentenced in 2005 to a year in jail. An exact amount of how much she may have embezzled is not known

Yea, what ever happened to this Cord (Sue) lawyer. I heard say she was one heck of a lawyer and wasn't afraid of tackling any lawyer, judge or case. Heard tell she was a lawyer for anyone and would fite for anyone regardless. Plus she was good and solved and got results. This don't happen in Elkins anymore, for the lawyers and judges and county officials are all in bed with each other. Cahoots!! Would not surprise me that the judges know the minute or hour what lawyer is representing a defendent. (accused). But this Sue Cord lawyer attorney showed up in court with tact, savey, brains, and won. Wish she was back! Mite hire her to kick someone's hind parts.

Gee Guys you are really good in your posts. But don't sell Judge Judy Oh, I mean Wilfong short. She is probably crapping her bloomers now dreading hearing this case. Bet she has already called everyone she knows to getter solved and settled so she won't have to put anyone in the gaschamber. Like some of you said, its all a game within the hallowed halls of the county. LIke lawyers fighting in court..they play poker or have a drink after the trial. But let me or you get our arst in the sling and we are buzzard bait. Maxwell (both)feathered there nests great. Henning had favorites. Maxwell had problems. Need that lawyer (woman)back a few years ago (she quit)to clean up everything. Her name was Sue CORD. Now she was a Lawyer!!! She would fight golliath

****, OLDTIMER IF YOU THINK JUDGE WILFONG IS AN HONEST JUDGE. WELL YOU ARE JUST AS SAD AS THE REST. SHE IS ABOUT THE WORST EXCUSE FOR A JUDGE SINCE JACK NUZAM WAS IN THERE AT LEAST HE WAS A FAIR JUDGE.AND LOOKED AT ALL THE EVIDENCE AND BASED HIS DECISIONS ON THE EVIDENCE. NOT JUST SOME OFF THE WALL SCHEME TO LOCK SOMEONE UP JUST TO MAKE A BIG NAME FOR HISELF. TOTALY DIFFERENT FROM WILFONG,SHE WAS ELECTED IN THERE AND SHE WILL NOT BE ELECTED IN AGAIN... IF IT WAS POSSIBLE I BELIEVE THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTY WOULD GET HER OUT OF THERE SOON AS POSSIBLE. AND PUT SOMEONE IN THERE THAT KNOWS THE LAWS AND ARE GONNA BE FAIR AND USE ALL THE EVIDENCE PRESENTED.. AND NOT IGNORE SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS.BUT HAND OUT LIFE SENTENCES TO MAKE A BIG NAME BEFORE SHE IS ELECTED OUT ';';';';J-M-O';';';'

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Rosie got away with it. Why shouldn't other people steal from the Randolph County taxpayers? Henning and Maxwell set the stage for this nonsense.

Lest time this happened Walt smiddlin held Rosie's hand at her hearing and she did not even have to post bail!! And of an 18 month sentence she received, she only served 8 months.... That's right 8 months for stealing thousands of dollars!!! Henning let her out on a mental hardship?? And everybody knows who paid her fine!!TAR&feathers anyone???

Look into the old judges cases with politicians or public officials involved. Check the attorneys or their offices and the investigation can become a full carreer. Thank Heaven that some fought that corruption and an honest judge was elected.

When are the good people of Randolph County and Elkins going to wake up and demand accountability by their local government? It seems like every few months the Internmountain reports about someone in government investigated for corruption or other wrongdoing. For a county with less than 28,500 individuals, there is more corruption per capita than Baltimore or Lexington.

Corruption doesn’t seem to be confined to the local government either. There is just as much corruption going on in private businesses in the county. I am beginning to think the entire county is full of corrupt individuals! However, I know that is not true since I know many individuals who have better morals than the ones involved in stealing from their employers.

What the county really needs is a court system and prosecutors that will treat these individuals for what they are, Criminals! No leniency, no special deals, and local judges involved in the cases. Last, turn these people over to the Federal Prosecutors

WELL ONE THING IS FOR SURE, WE ALL KNOW IF ITS INSIDE THE COURTHOUSE ITS PROBABLY CORRUPT,WELL I BET ALL THE COUNTY EMPLOYEES HAD A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS.AND EXPENSIVE GIFTS AND DID IT ALL ON THE BACK OF THE TAXPAYERS. WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE. THEY WILL ALL GO BACK TO BEING FRIENDS AGAIN. SOMEONE JUST ****** IN SOMEONE ELSES EGGNOG AND THEY GOT MAD AND DIDNT WANNA PLAY IN THE RANDOLPH COUNTY CORRUPT COURTHOUSE GAMES AND TURNED ON A BUDDY IN THERE LITTLE BUDDY SCRATCH MY BACK AND WELL YOU KNOW THE REST.

Hee,Hee..well folks, here we go again. Between the offices in the county (assessor, clerks and others) its hard to tell just what they are doing with our funds. I always heard its a free-for-all with our taxs and funds. No accountability, no supervision, no nothing. What we have folks is a bunch of KeyStoneCops and Slick Willy's who have sticky fingers plus feathering there nests (jobs, salaries, retirement) all on our backs when they should never been hired, should be fired, made to pay the funds back, serve jail time. Remember this, Randolph County is ripe with "fruits of the crime". Elkins and the Tygarts Valley is nothing but a Den of Crooks. The churchs in the county should be full on Sunday of people repenting. I expect there are more people in*****from Randolph County than other places. My opinion! Folks, thanks for The Intermountain for reporting this news! I only wish they would dig deeper into the county offices (assessor, clerk, commission, and other illegal stuff).
