Praise Partners to perform Jan. 21

POSTED: January 2, 2010

Praise Partners, a men's vocal group from the Petersburg Grove Street Methodist Church, and the Petersburg High School Chorus will present an evening of inspiring American Spiritual music Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at the Landes Arts Center at 18 Mt. View St. in Petersburg.

Admission is a donation. This program is presented by the Grant County Arts Council Inc. and community sponsors Mrs. Betty Mathias, Mrs. Becky Moomau, Mrs. Betty Moomau and Ms. Sarah Moomau. The Rev. William Brown will also present a discussion of shape/note singing.

This event is one of several GCAC activities that expand and amplify the themes of "New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music," an exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution, now on display at the Landes Arts Center. Also on display at the Arts Center is an exhibit about local traditional musicians who were recorded in 1978 and 1979. Both of these exhibits are free and open to the public and may be viewed the evening of the American Spirituals concert and through Jan. 24.
