Leona B. Swecker

Leona Bell Swecker, 87, of Buckhannon, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

She was born Sept. 7, 1922, at Norton, a daughter of the late Houston and Flossie Jordan Wood.

On Sept. 27, 1937, she married Herbert N. Swecker, who preceded her in death on July 1, 1986.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Thomas Swisher; two sisters, Erma Baughman and Geneva Smith; and two brothers, Montgomery and Ray Wood.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Swisher and husband, the Rev. Dr. Lowell, of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Connie Higgs of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one grandson, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Swisher and wife, Kellie, of Fort Worth, Texas; five great-granddaughters, Kaelyn and Danielle Higgs both of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Lyndsey Swisher of Los Angeles, California, Jenny Kutz of Forth Worth, Texas. and Rachel Mayer and husband, Caleb, of Fort Worth, Texas; one great-grandson, Max Kutz of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Colleen Reed and husband, Rex, of Barrackville; and one brother, Woodrow Wood and wife, Darlene, of Layton, Utah.

Mrs. Swecker was the owner and operator of Swecker's Store. She was a member of the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church of Buckhannon and the Pythian Sisters Temple 134.

Friends will be received today from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Stephen L. Swisher and the Rev. Dr. Lowell H. Swisher officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery in Philippi. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, in care of Karen White, 45 Fishing Camp Road, Buckhannon, West Virginia 26201.
