The Barbour County Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of its annual golf tournament, which took place July 17 at the Barbour Country Club.

Seven teams participated, according to tournament chairmen Mike Cvechko, Mike Hudnall and Jeff Rogers. The low score of 62 was turned in by BC Bank, whose team members included Isaiah Simon, Mikey Richardson, J.D. Long and Jeff Rogers. The team won a golf package for four at a West Virginia golf course of their choice.

Other participants included teams representing Allegheny Insurance, L.K. Bennett Appraisals, Broaddus Hospital, Larry Spotloe and two teams from Freedom Bank. Gifts of complimentary golf packages for teams of four were received from the Buckhannon Country Club, Grandview in Moundsville, Highlands in Franklin, Holly Meadows in Parsons, Riverbend in Buckhannon, Stonewall Resort, Tygart Lake Golf Course and Bel Meadow Country Club. Twin Falls State Park donated three days of golf and two-nights lodging for two.

The tournament had 13 hole sponsors including BC Bank, Bialek Insurance, Broaddus Hospital, First Central Bank, Melody Jones CPA, M&D Coffee Service, Mace's Pharmacy, Delegate Mary Poling, D-40th District, and Sentinel Mine/Wolf Run Mining. Alderson-Broaddus College and Freedom Bank sponsored two holes each. The income from the tournament will be applied to chamber scholarships and business club activities at Philip Barbour High School.

Other contributions included luncheon by the Laurel Mountain Inn in Belington, desserts from Barbara Smith, and use of soda coolers from Broaddus Hospital. Door prizes were donated by A-B College, the Builders Center, Freedom Bank, BC Bank, Allegheny Insurance and Travelers Insurance. Skills prizes were presented, including a new golf bag to Roger Bibey for closest to the pin on hole 3/12; a West Virginia University pullover to Brian Bibey for the longest drive on hole 1/10; a WVU shirt to Isaiah Simon for closest to the pin on 8/17; a new golf bag to Parker Kines for longest putt on 5/14; and a WVU shirt to Darryl Fridley for closest second shot on hole 2/11. Fridley also won a prize for the longest drive by a senior citizen on hole 9/18. Brenda Hudnall received an award for the longest women's drive on 9/18. No one claimed the hole-in-one cash prize of $10,000 where J. Michael and Sheila Clyburn were witnesses. Members of the Philip Barbour High School Golf Team and several team parents assisted with the event, as did Barbara Smith, Jean and Jerry Edens, and Jeff Powelson.
