Fred and Mary Lou Irwin celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 18-19.
The Irwins were married June 18, 1960, at EUB Church in Parsons by the Rev. Bill Angel.
Natives of Elkins and graduates of Elkins High School, the couple has resided in Elkins all of their married life.

Mr. Irwin retired from Monongahela Power Co. in 1998 after 39 years of service.
Mrs. Irwin, a homemaker, is actively involved in community organizations including GFWC Women's Club of Elkins, Homemaker's Club and the Red Hat Society.
On the evening Of June 18, a family anniversary celebration was hosted at the couple's home by their children, Tammy Anderson and husband, Jack, Brenda Carr and husband, Terry, Greg Irwin, Kathy Weese and husband, Leo, Tim Irwin, Beth Long and husband, Joe, and Cyndee Dilly and husband, Shawn, all of the Elkins area. Also taking part in the celebration were the couple's 16 grandchildren, Josh McDowell and wife, Shannon, of Montana, Miranda Shaffer and husband, Justin, of Colorado, Mallory Carr of Martinsburg, Brant and Ethan Carr, William, Torie and Mikayah Irwin, Gary Brown and wife, Cindy, of Hurricane, Samantha Brown of Cross Lanes, Kaleb Irwin, Mary Beth and Marissa Long, Sommer, Dylan, and Levi Dilly; and five great-grandchildren, Jacqie and Carter McDowell of Montana , Gavin and Ariella Brown of Hurricane and Brayden Brown of Cross Lanes.
On the evening of June 19, a surprise dinner reception was hosted at Orchard Hall. The couple was escorted in a black 1958 Buick owned by Joe Elbon of Valley Bend. Upon arrival, they were greeted by more than 90 guests in attendance. The hall was decorated with purple and gold and included many family photos. After dinner, a three-tiered anniversary cake was served.
Siblings of the honorees attending were Gary and Rosemary Irwin, Jim and Frances Irwin, George and Elizabeth Hayes, Middy and Harold Bower and Becky Hayes as well as sisters-in-law, Geneva Irwin and Jan Irwin.
The children gave a toast and shared a photo slideshow set to music with memories of 50 years. Grandchildren presented a slideshow called "Things Learned from Grandma & Pap Paw Irwin." Many other relatives and friends also shared memories during the celebration.
