Highland Adventist School students are painting and cleaning in preparation for a free health expo they will be hosting in Parsons on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The expo, which is jointly sponsored by the school and the Parsons Seventh-day Adventist Church, will be conducted at the building on the corner of First and Water streets in downtown Parsons.

The expo will offer checks of blood pressure, resting and active pulse, blood glucose, cholesterol, weight, body fat and lung capacity. A variety of health education activities, such as handwashing instruction with black light, alcohol simulator glasses that demonstrate the danger of drinking and driving, hydrotherapy demonstrations, and much more will be offered throughout the afternoon. Participants will have the opportunity to discover their stress level and health age using a computer program. At 2:45 p.m., health educator Elizabeth Iannacone will give a short lecture on healthful lifestyle practices. A variety of free health information and personal health and wellness consultation will be available.

"We are really excited to have this opportunity for our students to lead out in a valuable health screening program for the Parsons community," said HAS Principal Cheryl Jacko. "It is a great way for us to kick off our school's service program for the year. Our school is opening a second New Start Thrift Shop at the Water and First Street storefront location, so we will be able to use the shop throughout the school year for more health education activities."

The community is invited to visit the health expo, which is completely free. For more information, call the school at 304-636-4274 or Phyllis at 304-335-4272.
