Wow, where does the time go? It is Forest Festival time again! Elkins businesses and residents have been working hard to spruce up the town to make a good impression on all the visitors that will be coming to town this week.
As a photographer I've personally been cleaning and organizing my photo gear to make sure I'm ready for all the action that is coming up. If you are a photo buff, you won't have to look far for something to quench your photographic thirst. The Forest Festival folks have a massive list of activities for you to attend and photograph. Parades, contests, exhibits and shows, the festival has it all.
If you want to learn more about your hobby, be sure to stop by the photography exhibit and see what other people are photographing to get some new ideas. Also stop by the Randolph County Community Arts Center and check out the paintings. You can learn a lot about photography by studying the work of these very talented artists.
If you want to photograph famous people, Maid Silvia has a schedule that you wouldn't believe. She, along with her court and entourage, will be everywhere this week. The coronation is always beautiful and a great place to take some photos.
If you are going to get company this year, this will be the week. The friends and relatives will be coming out of the woodwork. Be sure to take lots of photographs of your family and friends and share copies with them. It will be a great way to remember a fun week.
When you get tired of socializing and can't eat another corndog, everyone will understand if you take some personal time to relax and head out of town for a little while to get a little nature therapy. The trees are coming alive with color, and my favorite way to relax is to head out into the woods and enjoy the fresh air and peace and quiet. It is very difficult to take photographs of fresh air, but go ahead and see what you can do.
The photo accompanying this article is of 2009 Queen Silvia Alisha Taylor in her beautiful gown. You can get the first look at the 2010 gown in Friday's edition of The Inter-Mountain and live that afternoon at the coronation of Maid Silvia Meredith Rae Orndorff.
