Highland String Orchestra, under the direction of Becca Jacko, is in the running for a Pepsi Refresh grant.
The group's $25,000 grant proposal would provide funds for instruments, supplies, music, stands and instructional time. The orchestra, sponsored by Highland Adventist School, provides group music instruction and performance opportunities for its members. Membership is open to any string musicians.
"This grant would really benefit our community by allowing us to build the string instruction program," said Cheryl Jacko, Highland Adventist School principal. "I hope our community will show their support for arts education in our area by voting for this project every day during the month of October."
Community members may vote once each day for this project on the Pepsi Refresh website at www.refresheverything.com/highland1988. Anyone interested in supporting the orchestra's grant application should log on once each day to vote for the project and send the link and voting information out to Facebook and e-mail friends. It is also possible to vote by texting 102898 to Pepsi 73774.
"If we get good support from our community, we have a great chance of winning this grant," Jacko continued. "We appreciate any help or ideas the community can give to help us in winning this grant. We hope our supporters will help us get the word out and will vote every day through the end of October."
