Defending champion Charleston is the top seed when the WVIAC Men's Soccer Tournament kicks off today.
The tournament gets underway when No. 5 Wheeling Jesuit visits No. 4 Davis & Elkins for a 6 p.m. contest at Riverbend Park.
Today's other first round match has No. 6 Pitt Johnstown visiting No. 3 West Virginia Wesleyan under the lights for a 7:00 p.m. matchup No. 2 Shepherd joins Charleston in earning an opening round bye.
Wheeling Jesuit got goals from Paul Silvestrone and Dominic Walsh during an eight-minute stretch of the second half to down Davis & Elkins 2-1 during the teams' regular season matchup on Sept. 24.
West Virginia Wesleyan blanked Pitt Johnstown 2-0 on Sept. 25 in the two teams' regular season matchup.
The Bobcats' Michael Scruggs and Daniel Smee each found the back of the net early in the second stanza to spark the WVWC triumph for Wesleyan.
Thursday's semifinal pairings have the Davis & Elkins-WJU victor visiting Charleston. WVWC or UPJ will make the trip to the Eastern Panhandle to battle Shepherd.
The championship game is set for Saturday on the pitch of the highest remaining seed.
No automatic bid is at stake since the NCAA does not award conferences automatic qualification into the Division II Men's Soccer Tournament.
