Make plans now to kick off the Christmas Season and enjoy a chance to meet and have a picture taken with Santa as The South Side Depot in Petersburg is hosting the "SnowFlake Express Train Ride with Santa" on Dec. 11.

The unique holiday railroad experience is open to children of all ages.

Passengers on the "Snowflake Express" will enjoy the Christmas lights at Welton Park plus a spectacular display of fireworks, hear Christmas carols on the train by the Petersburg High School Chorus and get a chance to chat with Santa himself.

"We couldn't think of a better way to bring in the holiday season than to have a visit from Santa and to ride in the South Side Express vintage passenger train cars," said Julia Hartman, director of the Grant County Convention and Visitors Bureau. "While waiting on the train you will enjoy cookies and hot chocolate served by Santa's Elf's and Mrs. Claus."

There will be four departure times for the "Snowflake Express": 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The cost for the Snowflake Express is $7 per person and reservations are requested, children 2 and younger ride for free.

While waiting to depart on the "Snowflake Express", shop South Side Depot and experience an "Old Fashioned West Virginia Christmas" with "The Best Of West Virginia" Arts/Crafts and Specialty Foods.

For more information on the "Snowflake Express" and other activities going on in the region go to www.grantcountywva.com or call 304-257-9264.
